Tracy LaFlamme Ortega

 

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

 

Tracy LaFlamme Ortega is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Prepworks, a globally recognized multi-award winning leader in education technology and prescriptive learning. A graduate of Phillips Academy Andover and Vanderbilt University, Tracy began her career in education more than twenty years ago as an English Literature teacher. Today she leads one of the most dynamic, Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) – Certified edtech enterprises, serving students across the U.S. and around the world. As an educator-entrepreneur, Tracy leads a team of educational course designers, content engineers, programmers, subject matter experts, and program trainers, who together have built a multiple award-winning e-learning platform that is disrupting the way students learn and achieve on pre-college and pre-career standardized assessments.

 

Inspired to create the most adaptive and prescriptive e-learning program available, Tracy focused on the outliers, delivering content aimed to increase the academic performance of the most challenged test-takers seeking competency to the most competitive test-takers seeking near perfect scores. Employing a unique and highly iterative process for both courseware and software development, Prepworks proven methodologies, learning techniques, and proprietary Learning Positioning System® technology are seamlessly translated into an e-learning platform used by students across 26 states and 18 countries. Prepworks programs and adaptive learning supplements include college and career readiness; PSAT, SAT, ACT exams, End of Course supplements in Algebra, Geometry, Biology, Civics, and History.

 

Firmly believing that today’s technology must serve as the great equalizer in education, Tracy has fostered a strong culture of social impact and giving, ensuring that in the course of the company’s commercial success, Prepworks continues to help high-need students, partnering with several local, regional, and national organizations who embrace the opportunity to serve these students. Tracy has ensured that Prepworks programs are available to under-served communities by partnering with organizations such as Teach For America, Breakthrough Foundation, Barbara Bush Family Literacy Foundation, Educate Tomorrow, Georgetown Institute for College Preparation, among others.

 

Tracy is an active member of the Woman’s President Organization (WPO), a Director on the National Board of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), a member of Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), and a mother of three young women.

 

 

Michael Penney

 

Chief Technology Officer

 

Michael Penney is the Chief Technology Officer at Prepworks and was previously Vice President for Products at Moodle partner, Remote-Learner, and the Managing Director for Moodlerooms. In 2007, while leading learning management system initiatives at Cal State, Michael received a Mellon Foundation Grant for continuation of development work on the Moodle LMS he and his staff had started.

 

Michael is a core Moodle developer and was responsible for Google’s App integration with Moodle and other highly popular add-on’s. Additionally, he has designed and led online educational projects for Intel, Cisco, Google, Scholastic, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and other K20, public sector and private sector clients.

 

Michael is a longtime active contributor at Moodle.org, demonstrating outstanding achievement as an educational technology architect, and providing a level of expertise that surpasses expectations.

Our instructors score in the 95th percentile or higher on their own SAT or ACT exams, and are experts in their field of study. Hailing from many of the best schools across the country, our instructors undergo a rigorous 50+ hour training program to perfect their skills and style of instruction.  Their educational backgrounds and unique personalities are just one part of their profile at Prepworks.

While “knowing your stuff” is necessary in order to be a good instructor, an engaging personality and an effective teaching style are equally important. All Prepworks instructors undergo a rigorous interview process and one-on-one lesson simulation to ensure they can pass along their knowledge effectively to students of all performance levels.

Prepworks instructors undergo a 50+ hour training process, and the training does not end there! Our ongoing training model ensures our instructors remain in-tune with the trends and changes in standards and testing.
